Literature Text

If you saw her smile
You would think nothing is wrong
Her laughter is loud
Her own perfect little song

She tries to ignore the words which stab at her soul
But yet they still rip and shred at the walls she has built of feelings black as coal

Sometimes the walls slip and something leaks out
A small whisper which slowly becomes a shout

She silences them with a sharp edge.
Which stops her from taking the small easy step over that ledge.

But eventually the shouts return,
Screaming at her 'don't you ever learn?'

'Dont you understand that you are hated by everyone you meet?'
'These shouts are not something that you can just delete.'
'We are here to help you, you see'
'For if we where not here, what would you be?'
'You'd be lonely and would crave our words which let you cut'
'Words which will stay if you keep your mouth shut'

But what they don't realise are there are shouts from outside too
Words which also shout 'everybody hates you'
The shouts do not understand what harm they cause
The shouts that highlight all her flaws

But when she suddenly disappears
The people that shout are gripped by fear.
when their fear is confirmed they form a web of lies
And people become trapped, much like flies

They flatter her and say words they've never said
But kind words mean nothing to those who are dead.
Note to self- Poetry is a good way to complain and vent without actually speaking.
